Name: Sun-Grass Plains; Kel'Yere'l'Ahatna; Plains of Kel'Yere
Description: A huge area of open grass and scrublands, the powerful Ahatna'l'Haida, or 'People of the Plains' control the entire area. They are a semi-nomadic native population, moving to follow the herds with the changing of the seasons. During the fall/winter months they stay to the southern plains, planting and harvesting the winter crops, and hunting the small fallow deer-like hooved creatures. In the spring/summer months they move up north to hunt bison-like animals and plant and harvest the summer crops. Historically, they lived in tents made of animal skin, but as of late they have built wooden frame buildings that are permenant residence that are repaired every season when they return to the Northern Camp in spring and Southern Camp in Fall. There are many various creatures that live in the plains, but the most prevelant are cat and dog-like creatures of varying sizes. The dog-like creatures are called "Alem'l'mw'ekem", and the largest ones are used for transportation, being the size of horses. The smaller ones are raised to be used for differing jobs, and the wild ones are hunted for their meat and furs. The cat-like creatures are called "Kin'l'enu'ekem". They are mostly hunted for their meat and pelts, though some of the larger ones are trained to protect the camp and the borders, and some small ones can be trained for odd jobs or kept as children's companions. The 'Kin tend to be less predictable and more dangerous due to their higher intelligence and claws, explaining the less extensive relationship between them and the People. Though, some villages of Ahatna use more 'Kin and hunt more 'Alem. The Ahatna'l'Haida refuse to share their lands special creatures and instead raise horse-like hooved animals to sell to Aquilos and the other territories.
Geography: The plains are mostly flat with small gently rolling hills. The grasses grow very high, some over three feet tall. It's easy to get lost and disoriented out here, but the Ahatna know it just as well as the average person knows their own street. The camps are cleared out of grass and the ground is flat and packed. The fields are rotated to keep them healthy. There are four Lakes on the plains. In the North-West there is Ebi'l'Ashu, or Spirit Lake. This is located within a forested area where the plains have given way to tropic forestation, known by the Ahatna as the Northern Forest or Northern Hills, because it is also a hilly region. To the South-West is Ebi'l'Soma, also known as Summer Lake and Fire Lake due to the ambiguity of 'Summer' and 'Fire' being the same word in the native tongue. This is near the Summer Camp. To the South-East is Ebi'l'Enu, or Little Lake, named for it's very small size. In the North-East is Ebi'l'Tepe, also known as Winter Lake and Ice Lake, because the same word is used for 'Winter' and 'Ice'.There are also several rivers of various size throughout the plains. Along the Western and North-Western edge the plains becoem more and more forested, while the NW is hilly. The Eastern edge becomes hilly and mountainous, and is known as the Eastern Hills. The southern edge is sandy and plagued by desertification.
