Name: Akinosh, or the Akinosh Provinence. The Kingdom of Akadia is located within it's borders, as well as the Ivera'l'Haida Tribe, and the band of nomad criminals.
Description: Akinosh is a Desert region. The Northern and North-Eastern areas are rocky, but still dry and hot during the day and freezing icy cold at night all year round. Few plants and vegetation grow here. The farther south you go, Akinosh becomes a great sand-sea where only the hardiest survive. Here, sandstorms come with no warning that are strong enough to bury entire cities within minutes. The land is constantly shifting and changing, and it is almost impossible to not become hypnotiized and lost in it. There are no permenant settlements out here, mostly just bands of hardened nomadic criminals. There is only one real city in all of Akinosh, within the Kingdom of Akadia, but it is magnificent and rich. The entire Kingdom is mostly encompassed within this one city, located in the North-Eastern part of Akinosh. Along the Northern and North-Western Areas are the Ivera'l'Haida settlements, nestled in the rocky outcroppings.
Geography: The Northern part of Akinosh, West to East, is rocky. The sand is rocky and thin, and only a few inches deep. The farther south you go, the deeper the sand becomes, and out here you can find great dunes. Water is a precious commodity here and hard to find in every area. In all of Akinosh the days are extremely dry and hot, often exceeding 120 degrees, while the nights are freezing and icy, often times dropping below 0. It is a hard place to live, but those who live there would want to be no where else than their home.
Terrain: Dry, rocky and sandy wastelands
Climate: There is no change in the seasons, just dry weather except for the 3 or less freak rain/snow storms per year that cause havoc and flash flooding as well as patches of quicksand. The heat during the day is relentless, and by night it is impossible to drive away the cold.
Flora/Fauna: There is no plant or animal life in the southern-most wastelands, none that is known, at least. Along the Northern edges, there are scorpions, desert mice, jack rabbits, tarantulas, jackals, snakes, armadillos cactuses, and tough little scrubby plants and lichen.
Year Established: Akinosh was established as a territory in the year 63, as part of the King of Iraya's bargain with the Ivera'l'Haida peoples who had been living there for much longer than memory could account for. In the year 373, the Kingdom of Akadia was established by King Abdiel after a bitter fight with the Ivera'l'Haida. Relations between the Ivera and Akadia have grown as the centuries have passed, but peace is tenuous, and may fall apart at any time. As Akadia grows, it will begin to take over Ivera'l'Haidan territories, and war is likely to be the outcome. The current year is 1217.
Ruler: The current Chief of the Ivera'l'Haidan is Chief Enapay (Brave); the Current Sultan of Akadia is King Hashim
Ruler's Titles: Sultan, Sultana, King, Queen, Prince, Princess, Royal Vizier,
Capital: Akadia; Hakeysh'l'Ashu
Population: @ 300 Ivera'l'Haidan; 100,000+ Akadians; Several Dozen Nomads in the deep southern desert.
Size: 350 Square Miles
Government Type: Autocracy. The Sultans pass the crown on to their favorite son, who is often trained from birth or a very young age to rule. The Military is made up of well-paid soldiers. The military is strong, unshakable, and loyal.
Government Stability: Very Stable. In over 800 years, there have been no major shifts in power. The ruling family now are still descendants of King Abdiel Salib's Family.
Allies & Alliances: The Kingdom of Akadia is allies with the Kingdom of Shinohi, thus the entire territory of Akinosh is considered allies with them, though the Ivera'l'Haidan refuse to honor the agreement. They are allies with the Nisga'l'Haidan and Ahatna'l'Haidan.
Enemies & Rivals: The Kingdom of Akadia has no enemies, but they often loan their military men out as Mercenaries-for-hire. The Ivera'l'Haida consider themselves enemies with the Kingdom of Messina because Messina is enemies with the Ivera's allies, the Nisga'l'Haida.
Neutral Countries: Akinosh has strained relations with Aquilos because Aquilos and Shinohi have a minor rivalry. Akadia has strained relations with the Nisga and the Ahatna because the Nisga and Messina are enemies.
Demographics: Middle East/India/Ancient Societies semi-based
National Colors: Maroon and Copper
Government: The Salib Line was begun in 373 with Abdiel Salib, the first Sultan. In 686 one of the Sultan's daughters and her husband rose to power after all the male heirs were dead, beginning the Bahar Line. In 1019, a descendent of Abdiel Salib's brother rose to power when the Sultan's three young sons died under mysterious circumstances. It is widely believed he poisoned them. This brought about the current Royal Line, the Kazmi Line. Every Sultan has been a descendant in some way of Abdiel Salib or his family. Currently there are two movements, one of Salib descendants and another of Bahar descendants, who want the throne. They believe the Kazmi Line is illegitimate because it is not descendent from Abdiel Salib himself, and they believe it was begun by murder and treason, making all Kazmi claims illegitimate. Though this is no real trouble now, as both movements gain power and credence, they may be threats in the future, against the current line and against one another.
Legal System: Akinosh follows the ancient 'Eye for an Eye' laws. The Sultan makes all judgements and decides all punishments. Attempts to subject the Ivera'Haida to this code has caused fights and rebellions, as they prefer more peaceful methods and wish to be completely self-governing.
Military: The Military of Akadia is large and strong. They are known all over Lamavia for their skills. Their code is to win by any means neccesary. Honor is important, but not if you are dead. They can be bought for a relatively modest price, especially considering their skills.
Economy: Akadia is an extremly rich city, though there are many, many people of the serf/peasent class. Most people in Akadia are extremly poor, and they are kept poor and ignorant by the ruling classes, who are some of the richest people in all of Lamavia. They make much of their money from exploiting their military, which is highly sought after, as well as mining precious gems from the desert.
Currency: Roupes. Different colors indicate different amounts. Gold is 20, Silver is 10, bronze is 5, and copper is 1. They are small coins that are used all over Lamavia, though some socities prefer bartering to currency. Akadia uses mostly currency, though the lower classes often barter. The Ivera use bartering almost exclusivly.
Technology Level: Pre-Middle Ages. No machinery, some copper, bronze, iron, etc. but nothing that is automated. Mostly wood things, like waterwheels, wheelbarrows, etc. Talismanic and Poppet Magick is practiced, though practicing is dangerous. If the wrath of the Sultan is incurred, the penalty is death.
Natural Resources and Manufactured Goods: Poppets and Talismans are sought after by many people in other regions, and most Akadians are desperate for them for a variety of reasons. Precious metals, stones, and gems are also very important exports, as are Mercenaries.
Social: Wealth and Class are very important to the people of Akadia, much like in Victorian England.
Languages: The Ivera'l'Haidan speak their native language, and the other people of Akinosh speak the Trader's Language.
Primary Religion: Very similar to ancient Greek and Roman religions, the people of Akadia believe in many Gods and Goddesses, some Higher some Lower, who choose sides and can hurt or help their patrons.
Cities of note: Akadia, the Great city where the Sultan and all the many people of Akadia reside, it is more like a small country than a city. Rich and decorative, there are museums, markets, temples, schools for the arts, schools for the sciences, schools for scholars, schools for mages, schools for physical training, and religious schools; Hakeysh'l'Ashu, the Ivera'l'Haidan settlement. The name means 'Spirit Rocks' or 'Rocks of the Spirits'. All of the Ivera live here amongst the rocky outcroppings and caves. It appears poor at first glance, but it is full of rich history and tribe arts and belongings.
